Team Mediation and Coaching

Conflict is a common and natural part of a team’s journey. At times, it can be beneficial to invite a neutral, trained 3rd party to help guide a team through any “stuck points.”

Team Mediation - The Approach

About our Approach

As a team, you will be guided through a proven methodology and process that aims to support you in a path forward, as well as learn concrete leadership and conflict transformation skills you can apply now and in the future. By the end of the mediation, you and your team will decide how to move forward as a group and make individual and collective commitments to guide you in your chosen direction.

We take a restorative justice approach to conflict transformation. Our aim is not to come with answers, but to provide a supportive space and process in which each team member can be heard and conversation can be generative. Mediation is a relational, exploratory, and non-prescriptive process. Learn more about Circles International and our approach here: circlesinternational.org/our-approach

The Process

  • One-on-one meetings with the Mediator (60 minutes): Every team member will have dedicated time with the mediator to explore your individual challenges, desires, and goals for the mediation process and the group moving forward.

  • Team Mediation Session (1.5 to 2 hours): Teams will be guided in a group conversation with the Mediator, with the goal of deepening understanding and making decisions together on the team’s direction and individual commitments.

  • Additional meditation meetings (1.5 to 2 hours): If the team needs more time in the mediation process, the Mediator will be available for the team for additional sessions. It is not uncommon for a team to need more time together in order to come to a shared understanding and a path to move forward. Teams will have access to up to three additional sessions.

  • Teams execute on their commitments and hold each other accountable using the skills and tools learned through the mediation process.

  • If desired, the Mediator will check in with the team after 1-3 months.

“Our mediator enabled us to build a container of listening, aimed to honor each other's experiences, feelings, needs, understandings, and capacities, and how those shifted week to week and moment to moment.
